It's all about the paint job.
Ryan's Rod and Kustom prides itself on custom, original, and well-thought out paint jobs, featuring unique mixtures of high lights, low lights, and finishes.
“Scarlet Lady,” a 1956 Lincoln Continental Mark II owned by Chris and Lori Ryan, featurins a stunning red glass-flake finish. Chris painted Scarlet Lady at his shop, Ryan’s Rod & Kustom in Ninety Six, South Carolina. He used PPG Deltron® and Vibrance Collection® products — including Crystallance® Glass Flake Collection Obsession 936717 Tri-coat, Radiance® II candy colors DMX212 Red (Yellow Shade), along with DMX214 Red Violet and Crystallance® VM4501 Silver — to give the Continental its distinctive finish.
We had to fabricate new pieces for the body, including custom-fabricated headlight bodies, fenders, and bumpers.

Chris Ryan has always been a car guy.
At age 10 he was helping his father do body, custom and restoration work in his Pennsylvania shop. As he grew, so did his passion. Seeking to hone his skills through education as well, he enrolled in Penn State, and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1989.
Not only did he have years of learning the nuances and artistry of building cars, but he now had the technical know-how to back it up, and to push the envelope further.
In 2003 Chris moved to South Carolina and opened Ryan’s Rod & Kustom. When it opened, it was a small facility specializing in doing great work on a few pieces at a time. And it still is. The shop is state-of-the-art. Chris has the latest welding, cutting, and shaping equipment that you’ll find in the bigger shops.
Ryan’s Rod and Kustom has the ability to manufacture a wide range of chassis, body and suspension pieces to set your project apart. Chris and his team pride themselves on personal service and attention to detail for all of their clients.
The shop only takes on a small amount of projects at once in order to ensure the highest level of quality and customer satisfaction. Large shop capabilities and small shop service, that’s what sets us apart.

This 1956 Continental Mark II started life out as a pampered celebrity car owned by Hollywood movie actress Susan Hayward. Chris wanted to pay homage to custom car legends like Gene Winfield, John D’Agostino, and George Barris, so the idea was to restore the 1956 Lincoln Continental Mark II the way a Rock N Roll custom would have been done by those builders in the 1960’s. This showstopping Continental has won the Great 8 award at the 2018 Detroit Autorama and the Winfield Award and Triple Seven Award at Syracuse.Watch the Video
